TRAVELOGUE #2 - YEOSU

I love the attention to detail that the Koreans have. They create the most beautiful works of art. The last photo was a quote scrawled on the door of a second-storey cafe with the most gorgeous velveteen vintage chairs, and some yummy waffles to boot.

I apologise rather belatedly for the photo spam, but every single photo here (taken during my first week) puts a smile on my face. I loved visiting the Swiss pavilion and entering this special ice-cold chamber to get up close and personal with a glacier as old as Korea. Our culture-themed weekends saw us donning cheongsams to celebrate our multi-cultural, diverse society - and it made us trigger-happy too. I probably lugged back a gazillion face masks too. Oops ;)

TRAVELOGUE #1 - YEOSU

I have to confess that I took a shocking amount of photos in my month away from home. Did my best to showcase only my best memories and moments here...so, ta-da! Presenting my first week in Yeosu, in pictorial form.

And what a week it was, namely because of these (in no particular order):
  1. Banana milk, perfect as a breakfast treat
  2. A stunning performance by famed Turkish group Fire of Anatolia
  3. Stumbling upon a gorgeous vintage store in Jinnamgwan
  4. Fantastic dance moves by our very own Singaporean dancers
  5. Churros, churros, churros. What more can I say.
  6. The glorious, glorious weather. I had to sleep with socks on the first few days, but toughened up much faster than I thought I would.

More to come in a few!

On mortality.

So I finally - and I mean FINALLY - got round to piercing my ears. This is something I have been meaning to for literally the past four years or so. Never mustered up enough drive till today. It felt like I was seeing the doctor: that black high-back chair I had to sit in, the little spiel on how to take care of my earlobes from now on, etc.. it was a little intimidating. I was clutching my bag like it could help me allay my fears and praying and repeating I CAN DO THIS to myself throughout. Yes, loser much I know :(

Everyone at the shop was appalled that this was my first time piercing my ears at the glorious age of twenty-something. And I was also appalled at the sight of my gleaming red blood lying opposite me on little cotton buds. Which (finally) brings me to the main point of this post tonight.

I don't get squeamish when I see blood on tv, and not when I read about it either. But seeing your own blood - now that's a different story. When you are confronted with that vision, it strikes you that you aren't immortal; you can be pricked; you can bleed.

I might be a little morbid, but this got me thinking about mortality. A difficult and terrifying concept. And something each of us has to confront one day.

And today I stand amazed at how one man - and no mere man - did more than we could ever ask for, ridding us of our painful penalty. He bled when his back was ripped apart; His blood streamed down his face as the crown of thorns was forced down upon His head; His hands and feet glistened with wet pools of thick ruby red liquid.

I wonder how this man could've done it. How He bore with the pain. How He allowed His life, His blood, to drain from him.

And this is the image of Jesus I hold in my heart and mind tonight. An impossibly great sacrifice, and a debt that can never be fully repaid.

A divine exchange indeed.

RED.

Happy 47th Birthday, Singapore.

Well, I didn't wear this outfit today but since there is quite a splash of red in it I thought I'd post it up, because it is National Day today. The parade's going on now but I'm here sorting through my huge stash of photos and wondering how and what to post up next. How (un)patriotic of me eh.

I've got lots to chew on these days, but I can't seem to find the right words to express it anymore. Perhaps it's best that those thoughts be kept on paper. In any case, I know He is still in control and, and it is that statement I cling on to, more and more, each day.

Have a lovely evening, y'all <3

Totally my idea of a splendid weekend.

And a well-deserved one at that -
my body is aching after a gym + yoga sesh on Thursday.
How very unfit eh.
This week was sorta monumental for me:
I (finally) took classes in Photoshop and Final Cut Pro,
YAYNESS!
I love learning new things.
